We have a common understanding of volunteerism and its noble concepts. However, as structured organizations (companies, NPOs, CBOs, NOCs, etc.) What are the legal implications of our relationships with our tteasuted volunteers?
The Constitution of SA guarantees everyone the right to fair labour practice. I think the Constitution also governs our rights to derive economic benefit from our time and effort in situations of employment.
So I question the legal ramifications should the organization / volunteer interface goes belly up!
If a volunteer makes allegations of unfair labour practice, will it be considered in a court of law?
Can volunteers legally insist on gainful employment due to hours spent in the organization?
If volunteers are injured on duty, or dies in the execution of duty, what are the legal implications?
I do request that SAASTA / ASTEMI arrange for a considered legal input to the benefit of ASTEMI organizations with the intent to off-set any potential negative outcomes thst couls impact on organizations
